Friday, December 11th, 2015 - there was a lot of fundraising going on for the Salvation Army's Christmas Bucks for Kids at Danville's Walmart with WAKG & sister station, the Scorpions Motorcycle Club, and more - plus LIVE music from local favorites band - the River City Rousers, who donated all their tips to the cause, too - over a hundred bucks!    WAKG's Barry Shelton plays bass in the band, too!
Thursday, December 3rd, 2015 - we had a big kickoff day with the Salvation Army's Christmas Bucks for Kids at the Hardee's on Riverside Drive in Danville.   Staff Photographer Barry Shelton captured some of the fundraising fun.
November 19th thru November 23rd, 2014 - country legend Garth Brooks set up shop at Greensboro Coliseum for 5 big nights and rocked the house each and every one to a packed house every night! On Saturday, March 1st, 2014 - country star Darius Rucker (of Hootie & the Blowfish fame) brought his "True Believers" tour to the Roanoke Civic Center for an evening of music and memories! His good friends David Nail & the Eli Young Band opened the show.
Friday, September 20th & Saturday, September 21st were WAKG Nights at the Danville-Pittsylvania County Fair, and staff photgrapher Barry Shelton captured some of the fun and excitement with Joe Diffie and The Henningsens!
Saturday, August 24th, 2013 - up and coming country pop rockin' allstars The Band Perry packed the house at the Carrington Pavilion - a sold out show!    Eric Paslay and the Chris lane band opened this jam-packed night of music and good times presented by Danville Harvest Jubilee.  It was a blowout final show of the season and concert series!

Wednesday, August 21st, 2013 - Carol was apprehended and "locked up" for a good cause, helping to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Here's some photos of her getting picked up and run in to her "cell."  
American Idol winner, Scotty McCreery, came to the Carrington Pavilion as part of the Danville Harvest Jubilee Summer Concert Series, Saturday, July 27th, 2013. The WAKG crew was there for all the fun!
Friday, June 28th, 2013 - Justin Moore brought his pure country twang to town with special guests Charlie Worsham & Brinley Addington opening the show. The Carrington pavilion filled with fans to enjoy the first concert of the Danville Harvest Jubilee Series.  
Josh and Butch James joined the gang of Family Dollar's brand new location on Franklin Turnpike. They had a block party in the parking lot with food, giveaways and special appearances!
As part of a Pre-Valentine's treat, WAKG broadcasted LIVE from Roxboro, NC at Footwear Plus - it was a chocolate eating contest where contestants were blindfolded and had to guess the flavors. Tina Long was the lucky winner of a trip for 2 to Atlanta, GA and $200 spending cash! Congrats to Tina and her taste buds! Hubby was happy, too!

The Showbiz Expo was open to the public from noon til 6 on Wednesday, October 17th, 2012 and staff photographer Barry Shelton captured the fun of folks enjoying the 'red carpet' experience and more!

Cody Jinks

Cody Jinks is a native of Haltom City, Texas, and attended Haltom High School. He started learning to play a few country music riffs on the guitar from his father when he was 16, but soon formed a heavy metal band before returning to his country roots and recasting himself as a honky tonk balladeer in the late-2000s.
