Janet Phillips, a Danville native, Assistant Professor of Music, Director of Bands and Administrator of Growing Up Musically early childhood music education initiative at Averett University will share how GUM program came to be and how it works through photos, songs and activities. She will talk about the benefits of music listening, learning and performance throughout life, but especially for developing brains of young people. Dr. Phillips completed her Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees at the University of North Carolina Greensboro and completed her undergraduate degree in Music Therapy at Florida State University. In addition to her work at Averett, Dr. Phillips maintains an active schedule of flute performances and private teaching. The program begins at 3:45 on Wednesday, February 28th at the Wednesday Club, 1002 Main Street. This is a free program and the public is encouraged to attend.
