Narrative Statement

In the past year there have been no full time positions available. There is a very low employee turnover rate in our two radio stations at Piedmont Broadcasting Corporation, which has resulted in a greater than average length of seniority among our employees. One of our employees has just retired after 32 years of employment.

The five most senior employees have an average employment tenure of 32.4 years, while our full time employees average 14.95 years and all employees (full and part time) have an average tenure of 11.35 years. At the same time, our community is small with very limited interest in broadcasting as a career. Thus, it has been difficult to maintain a "pool of interest" on a consistent basis in spite of our many outreach efforts over the year.

Our outreach programs include the following:

On Thursday, January 25, 2007, we participated in a job fair at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research complex. This event was sponsored by the Danville-Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce. There were over 40 employers who would be filling more than 850 jobs in the next three to four months. We heavily promoted this with interviews, news stories, and a heavy schedule of commercials.

We also participated in a Career Networking Fair sponsored by two local colleges, Danville Community College and Averett University. There were 43 businesses reprsented at the event. This event was open to the public as well as to students of both colleges.

We were involved in a Career Fair Day at National College in Danville on May 9, 2007. Fourteen businesses were represented at this event.
