Narrative Statement

In the past year there have been no full time positions available. There is a very low employee turnover rate in our two radio stations at Piedmont Broadcasting Corporation, which has resulted in a greater than average length of seniority among our employees.

The five most senior employees have an average employment tenure of 34.6 years, while our full time employees average 18.55 years and all employees (full and part time) have an average tenure of 12.94 years. At the same time, our community is small with very limited interest in broadcasting as a career. Thus, it has been difficult to maintain a "pool of interest" on a consistent basis in spite of our many outreach efforts over the year.

Our outreach programs for the past two years include the following:

On January 24, 2008 we participated in a job fair at National College inviting students as well as the public to attend to find out job opportunities available in the area.  There were 19 participating companies at this event.

March 18, 2008 we participated in Career and Networking fair sponsored by Averett and DCC.  There were 47 participating companies at this event.

We participated in a job fair at National College on May 14, 2008.  Students as well as the general public were invited to attend the event.  There were 23 participating businesses at this event.

We c-hoste a job fair at National College April 28, 2009.  The job fair was open to the general public as well as all students at the college.  There were approximately 20 companies represented at the event.

We worked with the Virginia Association of Broadcasters (VAB) to secure an intern for this summer.  We ran commercials January 8, 2009 through February 6, 2009 promoting the internship.  We had a number of persons to apply.  It did not work out.
