ALTON, Va. – Racing for Heroes will be raising money for disabled veterans this weekend at Virginia International Raceway.

The non-profit will hold its annual Charity Laps at VIR on Saturday from 9 a.m. until sunset. For a $25 donation, participants get the chance to drive their car around VIR’s South Course for 15 minutes behind the pace car.

Executive Director Brett Morash says a drag racer will also be on available for runs around the track and classic autos will be on display in what he describes as “a COVID-19 responsible event where people can stay in their cars.”

Racing for Heroes donates 100% of all money raised to program services for veterans in distress. The group is involved in stem cell therapy and recently helped a veteran suffering from “pretty profound multiple sclerosis” who had been confined to a wheelchair. After two procedures, Morash says the lesions on his brain have been reduced and the man is able to walk again, with assistance.

Participants in Charity Laps must pre-register at https://www.racingforheroes.org/rfh-events.html
