It’s hard to imagine a world where Carrie Underwood packed on the Freshman Fifteen. And maybe she didn’t. But in the latest issue of Us Weekly, she makes it sound like she enjoyed all the freedoms — and junk food — that came with her years at Oklahoma's Northeastern State University. “I mean, every college... Bridge to Kindergarten: Free Summer Camp

Did you know that roughly 150 children enter Kindergarten in Danville Public Schools each fall with no prior preschool experience?  Children who live at or below poverty and have little or no preschool experience have the lowest performance on pre-literacy assessments, an important indicator of school readiness. Bridge to Kindergarten can make a difference! Bridge to Kindergarten is a 4-week school readiness camp offered by Danville Public Schools.  Children will experience pre-literacy activities, group play, learn school routines and be encouraged to enjoy school. The camp will also offer two parent engagement events.

If your child has had little or no preschool experience, he or she is eligible for this FREE School Readiness Camp.  The camp runs June 6 to June 30, and is held Mondays through Thursdays from 8am to 12pm.  FREE bus transportation, breakfast and lunch are provided each day.  Registration ends soon, so call Gibson Elementary School at 799.6426 to sign up now!

God's Storehouse Golf Tournament

God’s Storehouse will host its first golf tournament on June 17th at Goodyear Golf Club. Whether someone would describe themselves as a reasonably good beginner, a modest sandbagger, the “just missed the cut on the pro circuit,” or maybe one would just like to contribute to the worthy cause with a sponsorship donation, here’s the chance.

The tournament will be a 4 person Captain’s choice at $75 per person/ $300 per team. Lunch is sponsored by Pat and Cathy Daly at 11:30 AM with a shotgun start at 1pm. Pricing includes green fees, cart fees and lunch.

All proceeds benefit God’s Storehouse and the thousands of families served through this food pantry each year.  For more information, call God’s Storehouse 434.793.3663, email godsstorehouse@comcast.net, or visit our website www.godsstorehouse.org.

Chris Lane

Chris Lane grew up in Kernersville, North Carolina and has a twin brother named Cory. While attending Glenn High School he and his brother played football and baseball, and both went on to play baseball in college. Due to Lane having a lot of surgeries it hurt his chances of playing ball so he learned how to play the guitar. In his hometown he worked in landscaping and started a cover band. In 2007, Lane and his brother auditioned for the seventh season of American Idol but did not make it to Hollywood. It wasn't until 2008 when his longtime highschool buddy Brent Eliason introduced him to Seth England of Big Loud Mountain record label which launched Chris's career as an up and coming country artist.
