LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty University President Jerry Falwell said he would be in support of a civil disobedience if the Virginia General Assembly approves certain gun legislation now under consideration in Richmond.

Appearing on the Todd Starnes Radio Show this week, Fallwell said “I’m pretty sure I’m going to call for civil disobedience if the Democrats go through with this.”

Falwell says the legislation proposed by Gov. Northam does not reflect the views of most Virginians, but rather “Northern Virginians, federal employees; the sprawl of Washington, D.C.”

More than 100 Virginia counties, cities, and towns — excluding Danville and Lynchburg — have passed resolutions declaring the localities Second Amendment sanctuaries and have gone on record in opposition to any “unconstitutional restrictions” on guns. Pittsylvania and Halifax Counties have both expressed their opposition to state legislators.

Falwell’s comments came as Democrats advanced a host of gun-related bills in Richmond.
