DANVILLE, Va. – The National Weather Service says pockets of freezing rain are possible in the Danville area late tonight and early Friday morning.

A period of freezing rain is possible along the Southside, leading to icing after midnight.

The New River Valley, Roanoke Valley and Highlands could see more in the way of ice accumulations, which are expected to last a few hours before the precipitation turns back to rain Friday morning.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Danville area starting at midnight and extending through the day on Friday.

Expect rain tonight and possibly some freezing rain into the early morning hours. For most areas road surface temperatures should be warm enough to minimize any accumulation, but for those in higher elevations slick spots are possible.
