(Martinsville, Va.) — Charges have been filed against two men in a shooting and attempted robbery that happened in Martinsville a week ago.

23-year-old Marquis Antonio Waller of Martinsville was shot in the confrontation and faces multiple charges. He remains a patient at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

According to a release from the Martinsville Police Department, Waller attempted to rob a man who was in a car at the gas pumps at 937 E. Church Street on June 2. The victim of the robbery was also armed. He drew his gun and shots were exchanged. The victim was not struck, but Waller was shot once.

A juvenile accompanying Waller also pulled a handgun and began shooting. The juvenile also faces attempted robbery and firearms charges in the incident. He surrendered to police Saturday and is being held at the W.W. Moore Juvenile Detention Home in Danville. His name has not been released because of his age.
