(Danville, Va.) – Danville was spared the worst of the snow and ice that pummeled the state overnight.

While a Winter Weather Advisory was issued for the region, the city received only a light dusting of snow, which quickly transitioned to freezing rain and then to all rain early Wednesday morning. There was no icing along the roads, bridges or overpasses in the city.

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg is calling for a high in the mid-30s in Danville Wednesday; however, meteorologist Robert Beasley says warmer air will move into the region tomorrow, with a high near 60.

Icy road conditions have been blamed for at least one accident in the northern end of Pittsylvania County. Virginia State Police were called to the scene of a single-vehicle wreck on U.S. 29 just north of the Highway 40 overpass at Gretna just before 3 am. A northbound vehicle left the highway, rolled and struck a guardrail before traveling down an embankment. There were no reports of injuries and a wrecker and a rollback were called to the scene.
