(Danville, Va.) – Danville firefighters responded to a pair of house fires Wednesday.

A fire alarm was received from 778 Melville Avenue about 4:00 pm. Crews found heavy fire coming from the first and second floor windows of the frame home. An interior search revealed that no one was inside the house and the fire was brought under control in about thirty minutes. Crews remained on the scene for several hours dousing hidden fires and hot spots.

The fire marshal determined that a short in some electrical equipment sparked the blaze.

At around eight o’ clock Wednesday night, firefighters responded to 613 Betts Street, where they found heavy fire coming from the roof and left side of the house. The house was so involved that crews had to fight the fire from outside the structure. A ladder truck helped beat back the flames and firefighters were on the scene for about three-and-a-half hours.

There were no injuries and the cause is still under investigation.
