(Danville, Va.) — Danville Police Chief Scott Booth promoted more than two dozen officers to higher ranks Thursday afternoon during a ceremony at O.T. Bonner Middle School.

Saying that they show leadership “on a daily basis,” Chief Booth promoted 26 officers to the ranks of captain, lieutenant, sergeant and corporal.

The large number of promotions was due to the retirement of several senior level members of the department in 2018.

Members of Danville City Council, former police chiefs Philip Broadfoot and T. Neal Morris, and former police captain and current Altavista Police Chief Tommy Merricks were among those in attendance.
