(Danville, Va.) — Search teams have recovered the body of a man who apparently jumped into the Dan River Friday morning. Police, fire and rescue teams were called to Memorial Drive just after 10 a.m. after someone reported that a 60-year-old man was in the water. Officials identified the deceased as Alonza Gunn.

Witnesses told police that a man entered the water and could no longer be seen.

Crews arrived at Camilla Williams Park on Memorial Drive two minutes after the initial call was received. A search of the river bank was started down to the Union Street Bridge. Personnel were also watching the river in several areas down to the pedestrian bridge.

The Danville Life Saving Crew deployed a drone to assist with the search. The drone was able to locate the man’s body just off the river bank. A DLSC boat recovered the body after a 45 minute search. Crews were on the scene for about two hours.

Danville Police said there will be no further investigation.
