(Danville, Va.) – Danville suffered about $9 million dollars in damage as a result of Tropical Storm Michael.

Initial damage estimates compiled through Wednesday afternoon total $8.7 million.

The breakdown is $2.9 million in damages to public infrastructure (utilities, streets, parks, public buildings and equipment, etc.); $2.9 million in damage to residential structures; and $2.9 million in damage to commercial structures.

These numbers will be updated as more information becomes available.

134 homes were damaged, with four destroyed. 17 more received major damage.

62 commercial buildings suffered damage, with one destroyed and two receiving major damage.

Meanwhile, crews continue to restore the few remaining power outages in Danville and Pittsylvania County. Fewer than 100 residential customers are still without power and linemen hope to have most of those outages corrected by Friday.

The city has released all but one of the out-of-town electrical crews. Two local contract crews continue to assist.
