(Danville, Va.) — Investigators of the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office and officers with the Danville Police Department arrested Jason Scott Rigney, 43, Thursday morning and charged him with first-degree murder in the death of 30-year-old Heather Matherly. He was also charged with use of a firearm in a felony.

Rigney was found at the Executive Inn Motel West Main Street in Danville. He was arrested about 1:30 Thursday morning, without incident. He is being held in the Pittsylvania County Jail under no bond.

Matherly’s body was discovered at her home in the Brosville community on Sunday evening. The Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide by the use of a firearm.

Rigney’s first Court appearance is scheduled for today in Pittsylvania County’s General District Court.
