(Danville, Va.) – A pair of accidents blocked the southbound lanes of the Danville Expressway Tuesday afternoon. The wrecks happened almost simultaneously at the South Boston Road interchange.

Danville Police say the first involved a tractor-trailer that jackknifed and overturned when its load of tobacco shifted. Minutes later, a car merging into the right lane to avoid the truck crashed into another vehicle.

The southbound section of the expressway was closed for several hours while thousands of pounds of tobacco were moved to another truck and the 18-wheeler was righted.

The truck driver was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries. He will be charged with failing to maintain proper control of his vehicle.
