(Myrtle Beach, S.C.) — Hurricane Florence, now a Category 2 storm with winds of 105 mph, continued to spin toward the Carolinas on Thursday as rain winds from the outer bands were reported along the North Carolina coast.

As of 2 p.m. ET Thursday, the center of Florence was located about 110 miles east-southeast of Wilmington, North Carolina, the National Hurricane Center said. It was moving to the northwest at 10 mph.

Florence is a huge hurricane, the hurricane center said, and its hurricane-force winds extend about 80 miles from the storm’s center. The diameter of Florence’s tropical-storm-force winds is almost 400 miles.

Because of its size, “life-threatening storm surge, heavy rainfall and damaging wind will cover a large area regardless of exactly where the center of Florence moves,” the hurricane center said.
