(Danville, Va.) — Effective Friday morning, Danville Parks and Recreation will close the Riverwalk Trail in preparation for Hurricane Florence. While the forecast has improved for Danville, excessive rain totals in North Carolina may still cause the Dan River to flood its banks.

For the safety of the public, Parks and Recreation crews will close trailheads as well as the entrance to Anglers Park, Abreu-Grogan boat ramp and docks, and the Crossing at the Dan Pedestrian Bridge. In the event of major flooding, several low lying trailheads and park properties are expected to be under water. The public is urged to avoid all flood waters and obey all signage.

The parks and trails will reopen once crews have assessed any storm-related damages or flooding in the wake of the hurricane.

In addition, the following programs have been canceled for this weekend:
· Abreu-Grogan Boathouse Rentals
· Council on Aging Youthfully’s Friday Night Dance
· Danville Farmers’ Market
· iChoose Family Classes
· Johnson Orchard Trip (will be rescheduled for October
· Midnight Marathon
· Park Meditation
· Pound Fitness
· Teen Open Gym (Friday)
