(Blacksburg, Va.) — The mother of a Blacksburg teenager who was murdered by a former Virginia Tech student is unhappy with the sentence he received and is petitioning the governor for a life term for David Eisenhauser.

Eisenhauer received a 50-year sentence for the murder of 13-year-old Nicole Lovell after entering guilty pleas during the third day of his February trial.

Lovell’s mother, Tammy Weeks Dowdy, says the penalty was too light and is petitioning for a life sentence. The petition drive, which started last Friday, already has more than 2,000 signatures. She is asking Gov. Ralph Northam and the Virginia high court to lengthen Eisenhauer’s sentence, noting that he will be eligible for release in his early sixties.

Eisenhauser was sentenced last month to 75 years, with 25 years suspended. He was convicted of first-degree murder, abduction, and of concealing Lovell’s body.
