(Danville, Va.) – Pittsylvania County authorities say the man whose body was found in an open field in Axton Friday was murdered, but they aren’t saying how he died.

On Saturday evening, investigators identified the man as 26-year-old Tykese Draeshawn Tinsley of Collinsville. Police said that Tinsley had been reported missing by family members earlier this week.

Tinsley’s body was found in an open field in Axton Friday morning and the investigation is now being carried as a homicide.

Pittsylvania County investigator Devin Taylor said the state medical examiner has determined that Tinsley was murdered; however, he declined to release the cause of death Saturday night.

Sheriff’s deputies and EMS personnel were dispatched to the 1500 block of Oak Hill Road about 9:00 Friday morning after a caller phoned 911 after spotting what appeared to be a body in an open field. When deputies arrived, they found Tinsley dead.

They spent the day Friday collecting evidence and talking to neighbors.

Anyone with information on the homicide is asked to call the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.
