(Danville, Va.) – An August eighth trial date has been set for Vanessa Poteat, the Pittsylvania County woman charged with drowning her newborn son and hiding the body in a duffel bag for almost three years.

Two days after been set aside for Poteat’s trial. The Pittsylvania County woman is charged with first-degree murder.

Investigators believe the baby boy died on Sept. 20, 2013. Search warrants show the infant was found in a bag at a home on Schoolfield Drive in 2016 after the mother’s ex-boyfriend opened the bag and found the “deceased infant that had been dead for some time.”

Police believe that Poteal hid her pregnancy and the body as she moved to different addresses over the years.
