(Danville, Va.) – The officers involved in Sunday’s fatal shooting of Juan Markee Jones have been identified.

Officer Christopher S. Simpkins and Officer David J. Branch will remain on administrative re-assignment during the Virginia State Police investigation, as per police policy.

Simpkins has 5 years of service with the Danville Police Department, while Officer Branch has been with the force for three years.

Jones died of gunshot wounds to the chest following an incident on Sunset Drive last weekend.

Body camera footage shows Jones ignoring police commands and driving away from them, eventually entering a brush-filled area. The video then shows Jones getting out of his car and ignoring further police commands to raise his hands and turning quickly toward officers before they fired four shots. Jones was struck twice.
