(Danville, Va.) – The National Weather Service now says Danville and Pittsylvania County can expect 3-to-5 inches of snow today.

Blacksburg is including the city and county in a Winter Storm Warning for the region. Meteorologist Robert Beasley says the system is expected to slow down, bringing heavier snowfall totals to Southside Virginia. Atlanta has already seen several inches overnight and Beasley says “all of that is going to move to the northeast during the morning and the early afternoon.” He still expects the heaviest snowfall in our area during the morning commute, with snow showers tapering off this afternoon.

Earlier weather models had predicted about two inches of snow for the region; however, the revised forecast indicates Danville and Pittsylvania County could get as much as five inches.

Beasley cautions that colder temperatures will follow tonight.
