Warming shelter opened after power outtages in Danville

(Danville, Va.) – Due to scattered power outages across the service territory covered by Danville Utilities, a Warming Shelter is opening this morning, December 9, 2017 at 5:00 am for citizens in need of a warm location. Those who lost power or have been otherwise displaced by the current snowstorm are welcome. The shelter will be located at North Main Baptist Church 2818 N. Main Street 434.836.4892. Please use the north side parking lot entrance. No meals or showers will be provided.

Before leaving home, residents are advised to take the following actions:
•Turn off lights and appliances (except refrigerators and freezers).
•Close and lock windows and doors.
•Offer rides to neighbors who may not have transportation.
Residents who come to the shelter should bring only essential items, including:
•Medical supplies (prescriptions, other medications, first aid kit)
•Baby care items (formula, diapers, and favorite toys)
•Blankets, sleeping bags and pillows
•Non-perishable food
•Bottled water
