(Wake County, N.C.) — Former Wake County Assistant District Attorney Tom Ford has been named as special prosecutor in the case against former Person/Caswell County District Attorney Wallace Bradsher.

Bradsher and former Rockingham County District Attorney Craig Blitzer were charged with misdemeanor failure to discharge the duties of their offices, after both allegedly schemed to pay their wives $48,000 in unearned state money.

Blitzer pleaded guilty last month and has paid restitution to the state.

Bradsher is fighting the charge and recently filed a motion to dismiss the case, while accusing Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman of misconduct and of talking too freely with the media. Freeman had been the lead prosecutor. She did not respond to the allegations but asked to be removed from the case.
