(Franklin County, Va.) – Virginia State Police say a Bassett woman was killed when she pulled into the path of a tractor-trailer in Franklin County Tuesday afternoon.

A 1987 Jeep Wrangler was westbound on Fork Mountain Road when the driver failed to honor a stop sign and pulled into the path of an oncoming tractor trailer. As the driver pulled into the intersection of Route 220, the Jeep was struck by a northbound 2011 Volvo tractor trailer. The Jeep overturned and came to rest on the shoulder of the road.

The driver of the Jeep – Angela C. Martin, 68, of Bassett, Va. – was pronounced dead at the scene. She was improperly restrained at the time of the crash, wearing the lap belt but not the shoulder belt. A 7-year old child in the Jeep was uninjured.

The tractor trailer driver – Ralph G. Elio, 65, of North Babylon, New York – was not injured.

No charges are expected at this time. The crash remains under investigation.
