74-year-old Danville man charged in the murder of his neighbor

(Danville, Va.) — A dispute between two neighbors turned deadly Wednesday.

Danville Police say 74-year-old Herbert Snipes called 911 about 11:30 Wednesday morning to report that he had shot someone.

Officers responded to a home in the 500 block of Cabell Street, where they found 61-year-old Jerry Franklin Wilson of Danville suffering from a gunshot wound. First aid was administered and Wilson was transported to Danville Regional Medical Center, where he pronounced dead by hospital personnel.

Detectives identified Snipes as the caller and took him to the Danville Police Department for questioning. He has since been charged with first-degree murder and firearms counts.

Police say the fatal shooting appears to have followed a dispute between neighbors.
