(Franklin County, Va.) — The man who drowned in Smith Mountain Lake over the weekend has been identified as 58-year-old Michael Wood. The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries said that Wood and his family docked their yacht at the Pelican Point Yacht Club where they stayed overnight. Wood left the yacht at dawn and did not return.

Family members called after finding a pair of Wood’s shoes when searching the dock and shore line for him. A search was mounted and Franklin County authorities found his body floating face down in the water at around 1 p.m.
