(Halifax County, Va.) – 49-year-old Anthony Terrell Chambers of Lynchburg has entered an Alford plea in Campbell County Circuit Court to DUI involuntary manslaughter in a wreck that claimed the life of a Halifax County woman last winter. The plea is short of guilty, but concedes the prosecution has enough evidence for a conviction.
Chambers entered the plea in connection with a head-on collision on U.S. 501 in Campbell County that killed Halifax resident Doris M. Chappell.
According to the Gazette-Virginian, Chambers also admitted to driving while intoxicated-maiming, a second offense of DWI within a 5-10-year period, and driving on a revoked or suspended license.
The 77-year-old Halifax woman died in a two-vehicle wreck that happened on the evening of Nov. 25 on Volunteer Road in Campbell County.
